Now you see it...

Now you don't

Wednesday we did it, we jumped in, we took the plunge. We tore down the big ass really big closet that was in the front living room. Honestly the room feels twice as big as it did before! It was fairly easy to disassemble, namely because Brent did it while I watched supervised. Seriously though it was put together with only nails, no crazy screws or glue or wall anchors to curse at remove. Last night we removed the falling plaster ceiling pieces that were loose then found our studs, snapped them with our chalk line, made our t-brace drywall jacks out of parts of the closet (perfectly sized lumber for the floor to ceiling) and then started screwing in our first sheet of drywall. We then found out we needed longer screws b/c we are going through the old lathe, plater and the new 1/2 inch drywall. I forgot neglected to take that into account. Luckily our homedepot is open til 10pm, woohoo and someone was really nice and gave us a giftcard for Christmas. New longer screws, a drywall dimpler (didn't buy before) and a drywall square (forgot to buy) later we were able to finishing installing the first sheet. In our current photo, excuse the fact that the drywall doesn't end on a stud, I forrrrgottt about that before we hung that sheet. It will should be all good though, we just drilled it straight in to the lathe which is obviously nailed to the stud. Onward tonight.

Slow progress..

Yesterday I also ordered our new couch. Woohoo, we've had the tan green with the couch cover, couch for almost 4 years now and while it is still functional I've been searching for something different. Initially a couch at Ikea caught my eye. Although it was more than I wanted to spend, then add on the fact that they want $320 to ship it to me or I have to rent a truck to get the boxes down here from Chicago and then still assemble the thing myself, the Ikea couch was a no go. So I found a dupe. The Ikea couch was huge, and actually bigger than our current couch but the one we bought was less than 2 inches smaller than our current couch. The couch we bought is also microfiber while the ikea couch was cotton. Tada.

Ikea $800 couch

Our new couch for less than half.
